Glass Logistics
Van Huët Glass Logistics focus primarily on the logistics of unpackaged glass.
Transporting unpackaged glass has several advantages, such as avoiding the costs of packaging, the removal of waste packaging, and return logistics. The vehicle has been designed in such a way that the vulnerable glass product can be transported safely and undamaged without any packaging. The Floatliner and the LogiTrailer are purpose-designed. The Logiglass® concept was developed and patented by Van Huët. It is a semi-trailer specially designed to transport unpackaged glass. This innovation has had a tremendous effect on glass logistics in the Benelux.
If the vehicle is not equipped to transport glass, then packaging must be used to make the product suitable for transport.

Avoiding empty kilometres
Empty kilometres are costly and will only become even more so. In Europe, tax legislation is being prepared (to be implemented in Germany in 2003, for example) that will fiercely raise the costs per kilometre.
The phenomenon "stillage" in the glass industry also causes an enormous waste: Not only are there far too many stillages, but even more important are the numerous kilometres driven because the manufacturers each have their own stillages that then have to be returned to the original owner. This inspired van Huët to develop the concept of neutral stillages. A concept that is becoming increasingly accepted by their customers.
With:
- a network of flexible, decentralized companies,
- the scale of the fleet,
- the neutral stillage concept and
- the extensive automation (ICT)
Van Huët Europe is ready to face the challenge this new legislation will pose to minimize the unnecessary kilometres.
